The Best Ways to Clean Your Window Screens

Window washing isn’t just about getting those glass panes nice and shiny, it’s also about  making sure the screens covering windows that open and free of dirt and dust as well. Opening a  clean window only to be met with particles blowing back into the house off the screen creates  double-work, so here’s how to tackle that task effectively and keep your home and windows  healthy and lovely.

Firstly, carefully remove the screen from its mounting. If the screen is older, take care not to  let its frame bend on the way out. Make a mental note of which side faces inward, since some  screens have removal tabs that face in towards the house interior.

Gently brush both sides of the screen to remove loose particulate matter, and do so either over  an old towel or outside so nothing lands on your interior floors. This is to remove the heavier  surface dirt so that the rest of the task will be easier.

Soak or rinse the screen to remove the less-easily lifted dirt from the screen. If you have a basin  or tub big enough for the screen, let it soak for a little while in the water. Soap and wash it gently,  scrubbing lightly so as not to damage the screen. Continue to do so until you feel you’ve removed  as much dust and debris as possible.

After washing, let the screen sun or air dry over time. You can dab it gently with a cloth to  help remove additional water, just avoid what contact you can to reduce the chance of a tear in the  screen.

Finally, once it is cleaned to your satisfaction and dried, carefully re-install the screen, again  making sure the proper side is facing inward.

Reasons to Outsource the Unpleasant Tasks of Window and Gutter Cleaning

Cleaning your gutters and glass is an unfortunate must for every house: this time-consuming task ensures your home remains clean and well-maintained for a long time to come. However,  there are some reasons one may want the experts to tackle this instead:

• Bugs – spiders, bees, wasps, and so much more can set up homes in gutters and window  cervices.

• Loose debris – gutters can be full of all sorts of jagged, dirty debris, from branches to  brambles to old pieces of the home itself.

• Nails and bolts in drain – gutter drains may be bolted onto surfaces, and with that can come  nails or sharp screws should you be fishing around in them.

• Easily-broken glass – older windowpanes are renowned for being easily breakable,  especially when repeated pressure is applied to them. The more windows you have to clean,  the more chances you take of cracked glass.

• Damaging screens – likewise, window-mounted bug screens can get scraped, torn, bent or  more when they’re removed or reinstalled improperly.

• Falling – windows or gutters, when you use a ladder you run risk of injury the higher up  you have to reach to clean.

• Uneven terrain for ladders – if you’re climbing on a location where the ground is soft or  the ground isn’t perfectly even, there’s a good chance of a tumble

• Scratching neighboring paint – falling isn’t the only risk with ladders, when you brace them  on a surface there is a chance of scratching the paint on the outside of your home, one more  thing to address.

• Denting or breaking gutter – additionally, leaning the ladder on a gutter to clean it can  result in denting or even breaking it.

• Pools of dirty water in gutter – if the gutter is particularly stuffed, you’re risking infection  with any stagnant pools of water still sitting within.
